For my my Ted talk I chose Benjamin Zander’s How Does Music Transform Us, throughout time and throughout the world we used music to have fun, cope with sadness, and anything in between. after listening to this Ted Talk and reading the script. theres no limits to how much a conductor can effect the audience my controlling an orchestra. Arts in general can provide new ideas and strikes imagination in listeners, however as a conductor of an orchestra they help to create and  construct music.  as Zander said “Music speaks directly to the heart. It speaks through the molecules. and is irresistible.” as a conductor he has control of the audience and helps to provide emotional feelings to the listeners.

I completely agree that music is an incredible coping tool, it has that fantastic ability to create and change moods almost instantly. It can define an entire event effortlessly and that’s an incredible ability. While I agree that musical art’s limits are almost limitless, however maybe think about how much it can truly affect someone who pays no attention to it, who is not mentally invested in what is going on? It may also be beneficial to explain what exactly Zander meant when he expressed “Music speaks directly to the heart. It speaks through the molecules. and is irresistible.” Why is this so powerful?

To play the devil’s advocate, I think there ARE limits to what a conductor can do. A conductor can’t put food into empty bellies. A conductor can’t heal illnesses. There are definitely important things that music can’t accomplish, and this is important to keep in mind.

I agree! Art can help people in so many ways, mentally and physically. It relieves stress and aids in healing processes. Learning how to play an instrument or even something as simple as singing in the shower can offer happiness to anyone.
